While taking a walk this evening I decided (should my site be based on the civic association) to make green a predominant color. We have lots of trees and old fashioned street lights that are dark green. I am thinking a darker green would make a better accent color than background or text. Then again, it might work as a text color on the right background--white?!? tan?!? (Both sound boring.)
I think that a nice kelly green on a white background isn't boring and like Durda said, it's very clean and polished. A Dark green would do the same as well for text, but I think if you wanted to avoid a "blah" factor, you could brighten up the green and then use the dark green as an accent on a top banner/title. Maybe?
I appreciate the color comments. I love color (my kitchen is eggplant with navy and lime green accents for example), but I think for this website I should stay on the more conservative side. Using several hues of green is definitely something to consider! Thank you.
I'm agonizing about color too. I fear that my color schemes will end up being on the boring side of conservative. But greens and browns do seem appropriate for your site topic, and I don't think they'll be boring.

I don't really think the tan on dark green will be boring at all. I think it will give your association a more polished look. -Durda

I like the green you're using for headings on this blog. It provides a nice dash of color against the white background.
